Shake… Rattle…. & Roll……. (outta bed)
Yesterday we were awakened at 7:11 a.m. by what sounded like a train passin’ right next to us. Mom says it’s a Earthquake ! It start out like a slow, low rumble - I tell ya, it sound and FEEL jus’ like we on a train !! (I neva actually been on a train before, but Mommy tell me dis what it would feel like.) We lay there a while wonderin’ when it gonna end, but instead, it get louder an da WHOLE house really start shakin’ like cwazy ! Mom an Dad grab me an we run fo’ a safe place while da pictures is fallin’ down an da whole house look like it comin’ to LIFE ! I really didn’t know what was goin’ on. I just a little Yorkie who neva experience nuthin’ like this before. But I wasn’t a scared - nope, I was a brave little dude ! It finally stop, an was calm an quiet again. Mom went to put on da news, an dad go to da computer to see what da heck that was all about. Wouldn’t ya know it, da electricity gone ! We can’t do nothin’ but sit an wait. We even try da radio, an no stations comin’ in at all ! I want to call my cousin Lilikoi and Nalu, on da other side of da Island, to make sure they allright too, but da phones don’t work ! Dis is terrible !! A few minutes later, da house start to come alive again ! Shakin’ an rattlin’ . What an awful sound, but luckily, it not as bad as the first time.
Finally, one radio station, KSSK, is able to come thru. We have to listen to that all day long. Michael W. Perry and Larry Price are two really GWEAT guys, let me tell you. Dey da best in emergency situations, they always find out what is going on an tell us what da heck is happenin’. (I guess I don’t have to bother to tell you what happened, as people on da mainland knew more about it sooner then we in Hawaii did !) So, all day long, and most of da night, the entire Island of Oahu is without electricity . I don’t know what to do with myself ! I so use to watchin TV or playin’ on da computer or at least listenin’ to my I-PAW’d (that is my Puppy I-Pod fo’ those of you who don’t know.) I couldn’t even do dat because da battery needed to be charged - darn technology, what a pain! Mom said I had to have my mornin’ breakfast PLAIN without my FAVOWITE CHEEZE on top because she neva’ like open up da fridge since no more power. OK now this is where I draw da line on dis earthquake game !! NO CHEESE, MAMA ?? Are you joking ? What a catastrophy ! How will I survive ? Well, I DID survive, but I did not eat my bweakfast. I went on a hunger strike. I figure by dinnertime, da power will be back on, an I will get my deluxe dinner, complete wit extra cheese on top, so I will wait.
We passed da day by playin’ cards an listenin’ to da radio. Mommy taught me how to play cribbage. By dinnertime, still no power. Even Mom and Dad had to eat some non-too-appetizin’ looking stuff, so I figure I better eat too. Dry Kibble… yuck !! It got dark, an still no power. Dad let me wear his headlamp to light my way around da house. It was a little too big fo’ me but I managed. It made me feel important too ! Time fo’ bed, still no power. I curl up wit mom an dad - Light’s Out ! (Or should I say Flashlight’s Out !). Da power finally come back on around 11:30 p.m. Tank you, HECO. What a vewy strange day, indeed, but I feel vewy lucky that it was not alot worse. I prefer not to play da Hawaii Earthquake Game again.
Here’s me kicking Daddy’s butt in a game of Cribbage. “Whadda ya mean I gotta make it equal 15? ”

Anyone need a light ?
