Just wanted to share the fun I had last evening. Mom and Dad took me on a shorter hike (about 4 miles) up da Kuliouou Ridge Trail. We went later in the day, near evening, so it wouldn’t be so hot out. Here I am at da Kuliouou trailhead.

The trail is all uphill, but is not TOO strenuous, and not alot of climbing over rocks and stuff. It is pretty mellow and cool with lots of pine tree coverage, and we seen plenty neat birds along da trail (They was too fast for me to get any pictures of them though - Dang!). We weren’t planning on hiking to the very top of da ridge, but rather about 2/3rds of da way up. There is a nice spot we know of, and Mom and Dad wanted to try out their new backpacking stove and cook dinner up there.

The tippy top of da mountain (you can’t even see it in dis picture) was in complete black rain clouds! Oh no! But, we weren’t planning on going all the way up, so we might be ok. The air on the hike up was SO muggy, it must have been about 99.99999% humidity. The most you can get before rain. Mom and Dad was drippin’ sweat, but lucky for me, I don’t sweat. On we went, up the trail.
At one point, mom kinda freaked for a second because she thought she saw a HUGE SNAKE in a tree up ahead!! Then, I reminded her Hawaii don’t have snakes. Upon closer examination, we found out it was a root of some other plant wrapped around da tree.

Finally, we made it to da area where we wanted to eat, but it was really windy cuz it’s kinda up on a ridge. Mom didn’t like it, so we got to do something real fun and go OFF TRAIL lookin’ for a more sheltered spot! And I, BryGuy, Little SuperYorkie, got to lead da way!
“FOLLOW ME, MOM AND DAD ! I will find us da perfect spot!”

Here is a little trail I found after some intense searching.

I made them follow me thru all kinds of brush an mini-Norfolk pines an they probably thinkin’ “Where is this little dude goin?”. But then, we came to this rather large pine needle covered clearing! I did it! I found da perfect picnic spot!
It was totally sheltered from da wind, and we even had a semi-ocean view! Unreal! Dad got da alcohol stove set up an started cookin da Johnsonville Brats.

Ouuuhhhh dey smell SO GOOD! An after a long uphill hike, I WAS HUNGRY! Mom got da buns an sauerkraut ready (I am not a fan of da Sauerkraut - it smells like a FUT to me!!!) an finally da big Wienerdogs was finished!

“Ouuu Mommy, dat sure smells good. Can I have a small bite? Paw-eeze??”
We grinded! Mom let me have some of da Johnsonville - yum! yum!

It started to get cold out an we was hopin’ it wouldn’t start raining yet. Sunset would be soon and we wanted to finish eating before it started to get dark out. Mom let me wrap up in her fleece jacket an I was snug as a bug in a rug.

Soon, we were on our way back down da mountain. Dis way of da hike was easier since it was all downhill. It started getting dark out, an mom and dad had to use their headlamps. I didn’t need one for me, I have super-yorkie night vision built into my perfect little package!
“C’mon guys, da trail is this way. I will lead you back down…. no problem!”
Only thing I was a little scared of in da dark was running into da Hawaiian Obake (ghosts). I heard plenty stories of several different Obake, especially in dis area. We heard a couple really strange noises, but mom said it was just birds an not to worry.
“Hey MOM! Did you hear that? Was that Obake? Huh? Huh? Huh?”
I stayed close to mom and dad da whole way down, an soon we was back to da trailhead. (Whew!)

We drove back home an I fell asleep on da way. Luckily, I didn’t have to help Mom and Dad clean up all da hiking stuff afterwards. I sure am one lucky little pup!
What a fun hike, an da Johnsonville made it yummy!!!
